Fishing times and solunar calendar

Pick a location for its 7-day solunar calendar: major and minor feeding periods, a daily bite rating, moon phase, and the tide turns each period lines up with. Computed from sun and moon position and NOAA harmonic tide data, the same engine the Slackwater app runs on your iPhone.

Fishing time questions, answered

What is a solunar calendar?

A solunar calendar lists each day's major and minor feeding periods, derived from the moon's position relative to your location, alongside sunrise, sunset, and moon phase. Major periods run about two hours and fall when the moon is overhead or underfoot; minor periods run about an hour and fall at moonrise and moonset. Anglers use the calendar to choose which hours of a day, and which days of a week, are most likely to produce an active bite.

What is the best time to fish?

For most coastal species the reliable answer is moving water near dawn or dusk. A solunar major period that lands on an incoming or outgoing tide, within an hour or two of sunrise or sunset, stacks the three signals anglers rely on most. Pick your location below to see where those windows fall this week.

Do solunar fishing times really work?

Treat solunar periods as a planning heuristic rather than a law. Many anglers find the majors around dawn and dusk productive, but tide movement, water temperature, wind, and barometric pressure matter as much or more. Use the calendar to narrow which days and hours are worth your time, then let the tide and the conditions pick the exact hour.

How is the daily bite rating calculated?

It is a 0 to 4 score that weighs the moon phase, which peaks at new and full moons, against how well the day's feeding periods overlap sunrise and sunset. A higher rating means more of the classic conditions line up at once. It is an honest heuristic, not a catch prediction.
